When thinking about your update, there are so many factors to consider. If you have kids, there may be certain priorities to keep in mind like having a safe space to play, longevity of products and ability to survive the wear and tear that life with busy active children can bring. What about pets? Do you like to entertain? Think about what your space is used for (or what you WISH it was used for) and let that be the starting point to opening up your mind to the creative opportunities that await in your very own backyard!
So let’s talk decks. Decks are a great alternative to concrete or pavers. Decks can add dimension, height variation, color and design and can be installed using materials and techniques to fit a variety of budgets and aesthetics. Decks can be constructed of different wood varieties as well as synthetic alternatives such as Trex® — but keep in mind that whichever way you go, there are pros and cons to consider. For instance, a synthetic alternative like Trex® can execute a beautiful finished product that doesn’t weather or require refinishing at a premium pricepoint (check out their collection at www.trex.com). Real wood construction may be more cost effective but will require more maintenance to keep it looking it’s best. Real wood will also have an expiration date as weather damage will be unavoidable. Be sure to do your research or ask your contractor to clarify the options available to you.
